Qualified Counsellor | Qualified Hypnotherapist | Educator | Assessor | Trainer

Helping you understand the child behind the behaviour.

I believe every child deserves to feel safe, understood, valued and supported — and every parent and carer deserves the knowledge, confidence and encouragement to help make that happen.

My name is Jacqui Blake, and I am a qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist, as well as an experienced educator, assessor and trainer. I bring eight years of experience working with children and young people, alongside eight years of experience training, assessing and supporting professionals working within children's residential care.

My professional background, combined with my counselling and hypnotherapy experience, has strengthened my understanding of emotional wellbeing, human behaviour, communication and the importance of safe, supportive relationships.

I believe that when we begin to understand what lies beneath a child's behaviour, we open the door to greater connection, compassion and positive change.

My experience

Throughout my career, I have worked directly with children and young people and supported professionals undertaking various levels in children's residential care.

My qualifications and knowledge

I have completed two years of counselling and theory training and hold qualifications in counselling and hypnotherapy.

These areas of training have helped me develop knowledge of emotional responses, therapeutic communication, the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviour, and the importance of listening without judgement.

I believe that combining professional childcare experience with counselling knowledge provides a valuable foundation for helping parents and carers develop a deeper understanding of children's emotional needs.

Only qualifications I can evidence are listed here.

What my counselling and hypnotherapy background means for you

My background allows me to bring an additional perspective to trauma-informed parenting education.

Rather than focusing solely on managing challenging behaviour, I encourage you to explore what a child may be feeling, experiencing or trying to communicate.

My counselling and hypnotherapy training also informs my appreciation of the connections between thoughts, feelings, physical responses and behaviour.

These courses are educational and do not involve providing counselling or hypnotherapy to participants or children.

Throughout these courses, you will learn to:

  • Look beyond behaviour: explore the emotional needs and experiences that may influence how children respond to the world around them.
  • Understand emotional responses: recognise how stress, fear, adversity and past experiences can affect feelings and behaviour.
  • Build stronger connections: develop listening, communication and empathy skills that support trust and relationships.
  • Respond rather than react: explore practical ways to remain calm, reflect and respond sensitively during challenging situations.
  • Understand the importance of emotional safety: learn how predictable, supportive and compassionate relationships can help children feel more secure.
  • Develop confidence: gain knowledge and practical strategies that you can apply in everyday family life.

Why I created this course

I understand that parenting and caring for children can be incredibly rewarding, but also challenging, particularly when a child is struggling emotionally or displaying behaviour that is difficult to understand.

I created Trauma-Informed Parenting — Understanding Your Child, Building Connection and Supporting Safety at Home because I believe that valuable knowledge about trauma, attachment, emotional development and supportive relationships should be accessible to everyone caring for children.

Whether you are a parent, foster carer, adoptive parent or kinship carer, my aim is to make complex subjects easier to understand and apply in real life.

Through practical examples, manageable learning activities and trauma-informed principles, including Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy (PACE), I want to help you develop greater understanding, confidence and compassion.

My commitment to you

I believe that knowledge can change perspectives, understanding can strengthen relationships, and small, consistent changes can make a meaningful difference.

You do not need to be a perfect parent or carer. You do not need to have all the answers. You simply need the willingness to learn, reflect and grow.

My commitment is to provide an encouraging, respectful and accessible learning experience that helps you recognise children's needs, reflect on your responses and develop practical skills to support them.

This is because when we change the way we understand behaviour, we can begin to change the way we respond.

Together, we can work towards building stronger connections, greater emotional understanding and safer, more supportive environments in which children can thrive.

Understanding behaviour. Building connection. Supporting children.
